Sir: Numerous accidents have been caused due to the recklessness of our government. A few days ago, we saw another example when an incident took place under the newly-built Metro Bridge Rawalpindi. A man was going on his motorcycle when a piece of concrete block fell on his head that resulted in his immediate death. This incident injured another person and he was hospitalised. This news has saddened every individual as this could happen to anyone. The reason for this mishap was that the civil engineers had used cheap material in inappropriate quantity for this project as they were so indulged in saving the money and spending it on their souls rather than using good quality material in the making of the bridge for the public. The finances invested on this project comprise about Rs 45 billion and on the occasion of its inauguration, the government had promised that this Metro Bus Project would be a great gift for the masses. The other fact that surprises me is that the supervisors of this project are not willing to take the responsibility for this mishap. Instead of accepting the blame that due to their carelessness this tragedy happened, they are giving illogical statements such as this is not a big thing that happened, it’s just a small piece of stone that fell on the people. They are also giving fallacious statements like this bridge must remain open as these small casualties happen almost daily in the country. I think the government must take notice of it because these types of mishaps create hatred among the people against the government and it is also a wake-up call for the authorities concerned to consider the importance of lives of the common people.
