Sir: Plastic bags are becoming a curse for the people of Pakistan. There are heaps of plastics bags everywhere, littering the streets and clogging the drains. These plastic bags are becoming poisonous for our environment as we are not disposing of them properly. Many people throw plastic bags onto the roads and streets, adding to the accumulated filth and rubbish. Plastic bags give rise to the production of more mosquitoes, which results in many epidemics like malaria and dengue. Many accidents are reported due to plastic bags getting stuck in motorcycle wheels. Plastics bags, when thrown in rivers or canals, settle down at the bottom, stopping the oxygen supply of marine animals. Plastic bags also pollute this water as they contain toxins. I would like to request the responsible authorities to take notice of this issue. There should be a proper system for the disposal of these plastic bags and their recycling. Moreover, usage of plastics bags should be reduced as much as possible and the should be replaced by nylon or paper bags as they are biodegradable, unlike plastic. MINAHIL MOAZIZ Lahore
