Sir: I would like to voice my concern over the issue of waste management or rather mismanagement by Karachi’s municipal authorities. Though I think that it is the citizens themselves who are responsible for causing so much pollution through littering, the responsibility for keeping the city clean and organising awareness campaigns lies with the authorities. Many people dump their waste in empty plots near their houses and no one bothers to walk a few more steps to dump it at the specified dustbins that are made available for this purpose. Furthermore, the municipal and waste management staff do not bother for days and weeks to pick the refuse up. All of this causes great trouble not only for residents and passers by but adds to pollution, which eventually negatively affects the changing climate locally and globally. MARYAM ZEHRAKarachi
