Sir: As with the case of many other art forms, movies also have not been put to use in our education system the way they should be. Film and filmmaking are considered to be outside of usual academic studies. However, our society has failed to understand that they are a great source of knowledge, especially in today’s world where thousands of movies and documentaries are storming the world every day. There are a number of movies based on history, science and other subjects that can be very useful for students. This genre, I think, has been most effective in portraying the violence and injustice in our society. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s documentary on the victims of acid attacks is the best example before us. I urge academic institutions to make such activities part of their curriculum, especially at the school level to benefit the students with this unique source of information and knowledge.
