Sir: Some years ago I opened a checking account with a commercial bank, mainly because of the cheques, issued to me from some publications for my articles, be deposited in my account. To my surprise a couple of cheques given to a friend of mine in Karachi were dishonoured. I sent several emails to the branch where I had opened my account and at last I got an answer that my account was frozen because I had made no transaction for more than a year. I asked them to close my account and send me whatever money I had in the account. This request got denied and it was pointed out that I had to have a valid Pakistan identity card before anything could be done. I am a US citizen and simply do not need to renew my Pakistan identity card. I have ample proof to show that the account is mine. At present, I need to reactivate the account. I have to request the bank to do so and directly send whatever money there is in the account to some reputable humanitarian organizations, like Edhi Trust or Shaukat Khanum Hospital. I hope the bank would respond. RAFIQ EBRAHIM Via Email
