Sir: The media serves as the voice of the country. The freedom that the media has acquired plays a vital role in shaping the perceptions of the people. It would not be wrong to say that it had the power to change the thinking of the general public and persuade the people to believe what they present before them. We all are aware of the main disputes between India and Pakistan. A single gory incident in the Indian territory diverts their media’s attention towards Pakistan. It would not be justified to claim that only the Indian media is involved in the blame game; the Pakistani media has also blamed India for terrorist activities in the country. However, there is a contradiction that at least the Pakistan media blames India when a big terrorist activity takes place but the Indian media overly dramatises many issues and blames Pakistan without any proof. The media has the duty to spread the truth rather than using the already built hatred to enhance their respective news channels’ ratings. It is the responsibility of the media to gather information without altering the content. The agenda of Indo-Pak talks should include the matter of the media’s role, to restrain the hatred that erupts from the freedom of speech. SHADAB SHARIF Via Email
