Sir: Bidding farewell to a lady who has her name etched on every success we have relished in the last four years is like losing our luckiest charm. Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and its students owe respect, gratitude and absolute admiration to the worthy Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Sabiha Mansoor for her pure will and dedication towards the development of this institution, resonating with the thoughts of thousands of students on the campus, all bewildered at the idea of having a new Vice Chancellor. Why, we ask?Making sure to attend every event on campus she has been invited to, from an insignificant poster competition to the most important symposia, Dr Sabiha never ceased to enthrall her students. With the promise that we will make LCWU rank amongst the top 500 universities of the world, she made every endeavour to elevate the status of the university. We come from a patriarchal society where men, unfortunately, have the prerogative to dominate women. However, every student studying at LCWU is blessed to have Professor Dr Sabiha Mansoor, the veteran educationist, whose acumen created Vision 2020. In extension to her devotion for women’s emancipation, Dr Sabiha Mansoor has very recently signed an MoU with the All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA), the pioneer of advocating women’s rights, in order to procure assistance for the entrepreneurial training programmes. While elucidating the significance of Active Citizen Programme at a seminar, the officials of the British Council announced LCWU to be a model university for educational institutions all over Pakistan. For all I know, Dr Sabiha Mansoor inspired us to thrive not just as students but as leaders of tomorrow. SAFE, Student Endowment Fund, is another point in case of Dr Sabiha’s concern for the progress of her students. Every year, since 2011, we have been arranging fund raisers to add millions to SAFE, for providing scholarships to those who deserve a chance at quality education. How many Vice Chancellors, facilitated with a whole bunch of people to handle students’ affairs, have we seen giving their personal email address to students and directly replying to their questions? Many of those reading my words would be smirking at how a student has been coerced to write this letter supporting Dr Sabiha Mansoor. But these words come straight from my heart, brought forth by the love and strength she has bequeathed me in these last four years.Honourable Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, I write these words opinionating my concern, worry and unhappiness at the thought that Dr Sabiha Mansoor will not be continuing as the Vice Chancellor of LCWU. Sir, my training as a future journalist pushed me to pen down the voices in my head, addressed to you. We regard you as a champion of student rights. Your belief in merit, potential and your promise to take into consideration every request coming from a student has encouraged me to write this letter without any hesitation. I humbly wait for your favourable response.HIBA HASSANLahore
