Sir: “We are now all Pakistanis, not Baloch, Pathans, Sindhis, Punjabis and so on and as Pakistanis we must feel, behave and act, and we should be proud to be known as Pakistanis and nothing else,” said Muhammad Ali Jinnah. We Pakistanis take our inspiration from the principles of our nation’s founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah who always emphasised unity, faith and discipline as our core values. Unfortunately these are principles that are not being followed these days. We have forgotten that before being a political party’s supporter, we are all Pakistanis first. The current political scenario of Pakistan has led to differences and conflicts among all of us. At one point we do agree that everyone has the right to support any political party but looking on the other side, these political differences often lead to abusive fiery arguments among us, which are particularly ubiquitous on social media websites these days. The trend of abuse is increasing day by day, where supporters throw out abusive comments at each other just to prove that their respective leaders are angels. They apparently find it their duty to support every single word coming out of their leaders’ mouth, irrespective of its true value. While doing so they totally forget that they need to maintain an element of respect towards each other. Even some journalists and politicians on social media websites are attacked with vulgar comments regarding their character. It is a situation that is highly alarming, where disrespectful comments are creating social conflicts. People taking out their frustrations forget that we are humiliating and fighting fellow humans.
