Sir: Elie Wiesel, the Jewish American writer and the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature (1986) wrote: “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” The silence by this writer, who himself remained a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Nazi rule, against the genocide of Palestinian children is painful.
