Sir: Terrorists have yet to succeed but terror it seems has already won. This was visible in one of the talk shows where the anchorperson talked with the former Taliban spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan on the telephone. He was literally dictating his terms, while the anchorperson repeatedly assured him of the media’s cooperation by giving the Taliban’s version ample air time and print space. The tone of TTP’s man was firm and decisive, while the anchorperson was talking like a bheegi billi (coward) as if he and with him the entire media is treading the wrong path. It showed that we have symbolically surrendered to the terror machine unleashed by the TTP. Everyone is appeasing the terrorists. Despite a surge in terror attacks, both the PML-N government at the Centre and the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are following the policy of appeasement. At times it looks as if Imran Khan is speaking on behalf of the terrorists. The religious parties are still not willing to accept that it is our war and not a US-led war. Living in a fool’s paradise, they think that all will be well once the US-led NATO forces leave Afghanistan or if the drone strikes come to an end. Relying on such solutions to terrorism is putting one’s head in the sand—a deliberate attempt to hide from the truth. This ostrich-like posture has wrecked Pakistan. The time has come to gather some guts and look the enemy in the eye. Engineer Fawad F Ashraf Rawalpindi
