Sir: Preterm birth is the birth of a baby that takes place 37 weeks before the completion of gestational stage. The exact cause of premature birth is not known, but some risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes and underweight of mother and later. Preterm birth leads to death of infants worldwide. It is estimated that at least 75 percent of preemies survive with appropriate treatment, yet most of the times after survival neonates suffer from several abnormalities like cerebral palsy, delays of development, adequate maturity of lungs, hearing and sight problems. We have a recent part of our country namely Thar where on every passing day about more than three infants lose their lives due to being preemies. Therefore, WHO along with all other health departments are requested to take serious actions regarding the issue. MARIA ABDUL SATTAR Turbat
