Sir: Karachi is the commercial hub of Pakistan, generating 65 percent of the country’s total income and 80 percent of the total trade of the country through the Karachi Port. Karachi is the economic engine of Pakistan hence any disruption can badly affect the economy of the country. Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has termed that Karachi operation is apolitical and across the board. Though the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government has been ruling Sindh for two consecutive terms, yet it has failed to restore peace in the province. Karachi is a home to multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural inhabitants; due to all these complications, the city has become a safe haven for lawlessness, terrorism, and criminals. According to a handout issued by the Rangers, they started their operation on 5th September, 2013 and arrested 533 people out of which 478 people were produced before the court. Among them, 127 were Afghans and 34 were associated with banned outfits. Karachi Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar said that the Rangers’ operation in Karachi had restored peace in the metropolis. He expressed his resolve that the crackdown would continue till the restoration of peace and prosperity. The point I want to raise here is that the ruling party of Sindh is not doing any commendable job or taking concrete step to control the situation. I would like to request the Chief Minister Sindh to exercise full powers vested in him and allow the Rangers’ to continue the operation till the restoration of complete peace in Karachi.
