Sir: I am writing this letter to bring the attention of our khadim-e-aala (chief servant) to the shocking incident of the rape of a young girl in Faisalabad by three people who happen to be politically influential as they are sons of a sitting PML-N Member of the National Assembly (MNA), according to reports. Even though the initial medical reports proved the validity of the victim’s claim, the case was withdrawn by her the very next day. Respected Chief Minister Punjab, this case epitomises the flawed justice system that prevails in this society. It is next to impossible for the weak to get justice, particularly when the case involves a sitting government MNA’s name. It is my humble request to the Chief Minister of Punjab, if not for the sake of justice, for the sake of your party reputation, please take notice of this incident and bring the culprits to book. And please do not wait for the day when she will set herself ablaze and you will visit the aggrieved family to offer monetary compensation. AISHA HUSSAINLahore
