Sir: Abdul Sattar Edhi, a renowned philanthropist, was mugged at the Edhi Centre in Karachi. Where are our moral values? People like Edhi, who have spent their whole lives working for the betterment of mankind, are not safe either. Places like welfare centres are also the targets of dacoits. There are no moral or social values left in our society. Self-centred people have plagued us. There is a Chinese proverb: “If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character, if there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home, when there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation, when there is order in the nation there will be peace in the world.” To a large extent, our society is shaped by the moral values of the people and therefore we need to guide our younger generation about the importance of social and moral values. We must instil the right character in the future of society to prevent more miscreants from being bred here. NATASHA SHAFI Via Email
