Sir: While Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif was receiving his honorary degree from his alma mater, the Government College University Lahore, a pregnant woman on her way to the hospital gave birth to a child in a rickshaw. She could not reach hospital in time because all the roads through which the PM had to commute were closed for the general public. This has not happened for the first time. Our recent history is full of incidents when mothers have delivered babies in taxis, ambulances, rickshaws and on roadside due to road closures for VVIP movement. We need to do something about this VVIP culture, especially when the country is already suffering undue stresses. M. RAFIQUE ZAKARIA Karachi
