Sir: Education is the basic right of every child and providing free education to children until the secondary level is the responsibility of the government. The destiny of a country can be changed by imparting modern education to the younger generation. The promotion of education is essential to achieve the goal of national progress and prosperity. Unfortunately, dozens of educational institutions are not functional and have been turned into guesthouses in Zhob district, Balochistan. Other educational institutions are deprived of basic facilities in this modern era of science and technology. Corruption, merit violation, mismanagement, nepotism and favouritism are rife in the education department. The Pashtunkhwa Students Organisation (PSO) Zhob has started a month long campaign to create awareness regarding the importance of education, reduce the illiteracy rate and increase the enrollment of children in schools in the Zhob district. ‘Every child in school, every teacher in class and a school in every village’ is the slogan of the campaign. The objective of the campaign is to create awareness among the people to enroll their children in schools and persuade teachers to ensure their presence. The campaign will continue until March 16, 2014. Parents, teachers, social workers, media persons and all segments of society are requested to join the campaign and make it a real success.
