Sir: The political culture of Pakistan lacks the internationally practiced political ethics of voluntary resignation in case of unpopularity or incompetence. Therefore to expect that the strength and volume of the long march is going to force the sitting government, with a solid majority, to sign off and go home would be unrealistic by all means. Next logical expectation in the minds of the long march organisers could be the involvement of a third force, which so far has been the military establishment in the history of Pakistan. Therefore it will not be out of line to conclude that the long march is essentially an effort to provide the military an opportunity to once again topple a democratically elected government.
