Sir: Some are born great, some acquire greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar belongs to the second category of great men. He achieved unbelievable results as a batsman, both for himself and for his country, with his unmatched talent, unflinching faith, tremendous commitment and, above all, constant hard work. He made his international debut on November 15, 1989 in a test match against Pakistan in Karachi. Who would have thought at the time that a player of just 16 years would shine to be one of the greatest batsman in the world in terms of both making and breaking records both at the test and one day levels? With the conclusion of a test match between India and the West Indies on November 17, 2013, Sachin Tendulkar retired from all sorts of international cricket. His career of 24 years also ended on a fine note — he was able to score 74 runs in the first innings of his last test match against the West Indies. Undoubtedly, the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar to the game of cricket will be remembered for many, many years to come. ABDUL SAMAD SAMO Karachi
