Sir: The concerned focal group that collects water samples and tests them for chlorination, found water supplied to four major hospitals in Karachi with no chlorination at all. These samples were taken from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, National Institute of Child Health and Civil Hospital Karachi. The team also found the water supplied to the CM house, Sindh Assembly building, the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry building and many other government buildings non-chlorinated. According to the concerned officials, 343 samples were taken from various parts of the city and the tests showed 52 percent (177) were not satisfactorily or not chlorinated at all. The other 166 samples contained 0.25 chlorine parts per million. The chlorination of water is necessary to protect citizens from deadly diseases. The government should evolve some strategy for the proper chlorination of water not only in Karachi but all over the country. GULNAZ ADAM Turbat
