Sir: The Junaid Jamshed blasphemy case has proved one thing for sure — that we live in a state where hypocrisy is the rule of the day. It shows that anyone with the right contacts and influence can easily be set free of the charges by merely apologising. And the argument for forgiveness is: ‘Allah is Merciful’ and that ‘human beings are bound to make mistakes’. If such has been the case, why have the minorities suffered so much? Why no justice prevails for them? Why have they been deprived of their right to fair trials and appeals? And why are these minorities subjected to inhumane torture for a crime that can be so easily forgiven for Junaid? Why are these minority factions forced to live like second-grade citizens in their own country? Durdana Khurshid New South Wales, Australia
