Sir: While our heads hang in shame and disgrace, the news of the cold blooded murder of a lawyer in Multan who had been defending an accused in a blasphemy case has travelled across the world. The incident has once again exposed the sensitivity of the blasphemy issue in Pakistan. Pakistan has completely lost its image of ever being a tolerant and moderate society. The lawyer had been threatened openly in a court of law for the consequences of supporting an Ahmedi. The state did nothing to protect this innocent man who was just trying to be a good human being among the wolves. The blasphemy law has drawn criticism from the world over for its injudicious and irresponsible implementation. It is imperative that the state takes the responsibility to improve upon the law that has become more of a tool of revenge than of any religious importance.
