Sir: Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan are in complete agreement on holding talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) before taking any military action. The talks have already been initiated and the two teams — one nominated by the government and the other by the TTP — have held a couple of meetings with no definite or positive outcome. The TTP insists on imposing their brand of Shariah while the government wants to negotiate strictly under the constitution. In this scenario it is very unlikely that any breakthrough can be achieved. However, the biggest disadvantage of this futile exercise is that time is quickly running out. Taking advantage of this situation the TTP is reorganising itself and the incumbents are making a mess of governance. Because Imran Khan and the PML-N are on the same page about the utility of peace talks, vocal and strong opposition on other issues of governance where the incumbents are bulldozing their own agenda has also become mild. The recent relatively weak reaction of Imran Khan on the PCB issue is an example of this. Zaheer Ahmed Islamabad
