Sir: Just to see the images of suffering people ravaged by this year’s floods is enough to bring tears to one’s eyes. Everything they own and everything that guarantees a livelihood for them has been destroyed by Mother Nature, be it their homes, their cattle or their crops. Live televised scenes show shattered families crossing floodwaters and losing all they are carrying in their arms. The government has yet to do something substantial for these families like building them homes, rehabilitating them in proper camps and providing them with an adequate amount of food and water. Considering that we still have flood-affected victims from the 2010 floods simply wandering homeless to this day, we can now count on our government to do absolutely nothing. FAROOQ WARIS Lahore
