Sir: As if we needed this last act to display our apathy towards freedom of life and speech. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has reportedly stoned to death a young girl named Fatoum Al-Jassem, after securing the sentence from the Al-Reqqa religious court in Syria, on the accusation of adultery. Her fault: she has been found using Facebook. The ruling has described Facebook membership tantamount to committing adultery. One is completely in shock and the mind is numb, failing to understand if it was sheer stupidity reflecting sterility of mind and intellect or was it passion run amuck. Whatever, the world must not remain silent on this brazen act of violence and discrimination against freedom of speech and women. Where would this all stop and what steps has the Muslim world decided to take against these rebels? This will set a wrong precedent, especially against women, the worst sufferers already at the hands of terrorists. Faran Muhammad KhanKarachi
