Sir: With reference to a report in your newspaper, ‘Thar Hindus not getting appropriate food supplies’ (Daily Times, March 12, 2014), I am deeply concerned over reports in the national media about allegations of discrimination against Hindus in provision of relief commodities dispatched by the federal government for the drought-hit Thar region. It was reported that only food commodities with meat ingredients are being sent to Thar as part of a deliberate attempt by someone in the federal government to sabotage relief efforts, since 50 percent of the population of the drought-affected Thari population are Hindus and Dalits and a sizable number of them don’t consume meat as a religious principle. I would like to demand an inquiry into these allegations and ask the federal government to ensure provision of equal quantities of vegetarian food commodities for drought-affected minorities also.
