Sir: News reports read: “Sindh children to be administered polio drops by force.” It is about time officials took a stronger stand against the rising polio issue. Even the use of force is absolutely justified because this disease is not something to be taken lightly, especially when it has the ability to spread from person to person through mere contact. It is a shame that, while other countries have almost eradicated this disease, Pakistan is still struggling to get it under control. The key factor responsible seems to be lack of awareness amongst the masses. While the upper and middle class have taken developments in the field of medicine, in this particular case, in their stride, the lower class seems to have alienated itself from such advancements and hence resists vaccinations. Nonetheless, it is good to see health officials on their feet to fight polio. Another thing they need to see through is spreading awareness amongst the masses. ABEER ANWAAR Karachi
