Sir: I am a lower middle class employee of an IT company here in Lahore and I can actually feel myself being squeezed out of this socio-economic bracket that I have been in all my life. I can feel the strain of everyday expenses pushing me into the lower income strata of our society. Just to illustrate, I am a father of two small children and we have one air conditioner in our home. We only use that luxury item at night to ensure a proper night’s sleep, all hunkering down in one room. Most of the time we cannot get a decent night’s rest because of the constant load shedding. Imagine my surprise when my electricity bill arrives and I see that it quotes an astronomical amount! What am I to make of this kind of billing system? Am I supposed to pay obscene amounts of money for electricity that I do not use? What is to become of my family and myself when our status in this society is being crushed every day? I am at a loss.JAHANGIR MALIKLahore
