Sir: Poverty has become all entrenching here in Pakistan with the poor being culled, the middle-class becoming poorer and the rich doing nothing more than protecting their assets. Daily wages have gone down, incomes are being heavily taxed and more hidden taxes are being introduced every day. Businesses are floundering and the job market has saturated, leaving a huge proportion of the youth disillusioned and frustrated. There are more beggars out on the streets and more hungry mouths to feed than ever before. This is not a ‘new’ Pakistan — this is a dying Pakistan. HINA AHSAN Lahore
