Sir: One cannot begin to imagine the trial the people of the Philippines are going through at the moment. Your editorial ‘A prayer for the Philippines’ (Daily Times, Nov 14, 2013) really touched a chord with me when I read it, reminding me that a huge natural catastrophe has occurred and has left many millions without hope. The only things one really can do are pray for these poor souls and offer as much aid as possible. We Pakistanis are already suffering all the miseries any poor nation can list but we still must band together to offer our assistance to all those who need help in the typhoon-ravaged country. Whether that help comes in the form of non-perishable food items, warm clothing or money, we must band together like we expected the world to unite to help us during the floods of 2010 and the earthquake of 2005. I am amazed how so little is being reported in Pakistan about the typhoon and the state of the Philippines. Why are we being so blasé about the worst storm on record in terms of devastation and casualties? We must open our eyes and help our fellow human beings. SAIRA TAIMUR Lahore
