Sir: It seems that there is a thaw in relations between the Kabul government and the Taliban. The prospect of talks between the Taliban representatives and Afghan government along with UN representatives seems positive. A similar step was taken in the past as the Doha talks but unfortunately they remained unsuccessful due to various reasons. Now, once again there is an opportunity to end the bloody war, and the two sides should show some flexibility to save Afghanistan from plunging further into anarchy. Pakistan being a brotherly neighbour can play an important role to bring the two sides to the negotiating table and can continue play backdoor diplomacy. The war has gone on too long now. There should be an end to the war in order to save the future generations of Afghanistan. The ending of the war is also in the interests of Pakistan’s security. HAFSA KHALED Via Email
