Sir: Being a patriotic citizen, I wish to draw the attention of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to the idiotic, stupid and rough use of currency notes that the central bank might have noticed itself. Not only citizens, but also bank officials are seen spoiling currency notes with stamps, numerical figures and other marks. The public is generally unaware of the sanctity of the currency. Some write their names and idiotic expressions on currency notes and the practice has been rampant everywhere. The most common practice is the folding and stapling of notes. A butcher, betel-seller, poultry meat seller and those dealing with greasy items make the currency notes most shabby. Resultantly, the currency notes soon wear out and become unacceptable. If we compare the Pakistani currency with the currencies of other countries, particularly the dollar, we are surprised to see that our own people do not treat them the way they treat foreign currencies. The SBP must be held answerable for this phenomenon. The central bank needs to take precautionary measures on a priority basis for creating awareness among the masses. It should be enforced that any note found spoiled by any means will not be acceptable. IMRAN KHAN Lahore
