Sir: It seems that guns and weapons have become a necessity for Pakistanis. These are being used for self-defence as well as to commit street crimes. There is no check on the spread of arms in Pakistan. Weapons have become an essential part of celebrations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while aerial firing is a common practice everywhere in the country and has become a trend. Another important thing is that a large number of people possess unlicenced weapons. A major reduction in street crimes could be brought about if our law enforcement agencies keep a regular check on unlicenced arms. There should be strict punishment for those who possess weapons without a licence. This is necessary for the safety of every individual. ANIS-UR-REHMAN Karachi
