Sir: The news of the deaths of 21 children in Thar due to malnutrition brought about by drought, was shocking for everyone. However, rather than calling it death why don’t we call it murder? 60,000 sacks of wheat are still lying in godowns awaiting distribution amongst the people worst affected by the drought. According to reports this is not the first example of bad governance in Sindh. During the last devastating floods in 2012, more than 800 children died of measles in Sindh and though medicines were available in abundance, they could not be administered to all the children in time. Whether it was the health department’s negligence or the non-distribution of wheat that caused the deaths, it shows complete carelessness by the government. Let’s pray that government attitudes improve. Everyone in the country should come forward to help the drought-hit people. SOHA JAFRY Karachi
