Sir: In winters, hundreds of flights are usually affected due to extreme weather conditions all over the world. People do not have to face such hassle as there will be no more flight delays and diversions due to foggy conditions in Lahore. The upgrading of the air navigation infrastructure at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore is a welcome step. The inauguration of state-of-the-art Instrument Landing System (IL) CAT III-B by the Chief Minister Punjab is another milestone achieved by the government as it will improve visibility during foggy conditions. The ILS CAT-III is a ground-based instrument approach system that provides assistance to help the aircraft with regard to risk-free landing during poor visibility due to fog, smog, rain and other meteorological phenomena. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the system will facilitate aircraft landing in 50 metres visibility. It is a source of pride for the nation as the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore has become the first airport in the country and second in South Asia to have such facility. Moreover, it is heard that after Lahore, the ILS CAT III-B will also be installed at the new Islamabad International Airport. SYED ALI QASIM Lahore
