Sir: The main reason behind the failure of many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Pakistan is that they are not working according to the needs of communities. And they have never been able to set proactive plans to achieve targets. Additionally, they do not conduct meetings with the people of local communities before the implementation of any kind of project. Their many projects are meaningless just because of the non-seriousness towards conducting the baseline survey of the targeted areas and exclusion of local people while making project proposals. Sadly, nothing has been changed yet. Look at the poverty ratio, health related issues and many others that are rapidly growing. I am in utter disappointment that many thousand NGOs are working here but we cannot find any kind of big development in the rural areas of Pakistan. Rural population has no access to quality education, safe drinking water, health centres and shelters. Confidently speaking, if they sincerely work they can bring a big change. They need to focus on the provision of basic facilities of life. But again a question arises here is that who will do this, who will come forward to undertake this responsibility either the government or NGOs? IMRAN KHOSO Dadu
