Sir: Pakistan is earning itself a very unenviable reputation as a country with little to no respect for human life. One of the most prominent examples of this malaise is the misuse to which we put our blasphemy laws, which have, of late, incriminated and hurt more people than ever before. Everyone from a schizophrenic elderly patient to a couple accused of sending blasphemous text messages have been charged with a crime that usually results in lynching and death. What is the point in all this? I will tell you: settling personal scores and vendettas — that is all. We have reduced our love for God and the prophet (PBUH) to nothing more than murder and bloodshed. I am sure this is not the kind of care and compassion that God wanted from us. QUDSIA GHANI Lahore
