Sir: I would like to mention that ‘Earth Hour’ is not only about saving electricity, which we are already doing for many hours every day; it is also about how we generate electricity. Earth Hour is meant to create awareness about electricity generation by burning fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal. These sources of energy emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide that negatively affect the atmosphere. Much like a greenhouse in a garden, these gases prevents solar radiation from leaving the atmosphere by keeping it locked on earth. This is what causes global warming resulting in floods and droughts, etc. The right way to celebrate Earth Hour could be to make a resolution to not use fossil fuels and switch to alternate sources of energy. Hydel is perhaps the only source that gives clean energy. Ehsan ul haq Islamabad
