Sir: Karachi University is ranked among the top universities of the country in terms of international standards, according to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in 2013. This public sector university provides point services to its students coming from far-flung areas of the city. The university boasts around 80,000 students and has more than 52 departments. The university currently possesses around 34 point buses out of which only 27 or 28 are working. Most of these functioning buses are also in dilapidated condition. One can find many buses turned into scrap at the point terminal in the university. Due to the acute shortage of buses, students have to travel while hanging on the edge of the buses, risking their lives. The government should provide the required funds for transportation, while the concerned authorities should play their role in providing smooth transportation to the students.
