Sir: A group of concerned citizens of Pakistan filed a public interest petition against illegal and unlawful vehicular licence plates being used by government officials, politicians and some civilians as well. These vehicles have been involved in crimes, kidnapping and smuggling, but they cannot be traced. The signing took place at the Sindh High Court. To my utter horror, the SHC parking lot was full of vehicles with false and fraudulent licence plates belonging to lawyers. Several vehicles in the SHC premises, driven by men in black coats, carried tampered registration plates, reading ‘Advocate SHC’. Some had taken the law into their own hands and had their private licence plates printed on a green background with the ‘Government of Sindh’ inscribed on them, hence presenting them as government vehicles. Most of the other vehicles had fake or fancy licence plates. It saddened me to see such educated members of our society, who should protect the law of this land, misuse their positions.
