Sir: I am appalled to read reports of maternity trousers made in Malaysia that have been designed and developed to protect a woman’s ‘modesty’ during the birth of her child. Apparently, Islamists have been getting their trousers in a knot over the fact that there are male gynecologists who may have to tend to expecting mothers and that this is a very ‘un-Islamic’ thing. A Malaysian company is locally (in Malaysia) selling these trousers that have a discreet opening in front from where the baby can be delivered! Is it just me or are things going from bad to worse? We already know that clerics and fundamentalists have a warped view about everything related to women and the faith, but what is wrong with those people (women) who are buying these trousers? Medical professionals are warning that the apparel could harm the health of the mother and the baby to a large extent. Sometimes I feel we should just give up and let the crazies go on being crazy!FAIZA HASANLahore
