Sir: The federal government has facilitated pensioners by introducing a new system of receiving pension through banks. Now, pensions are being transferred to the bank accounts of pensioners, who can withdraw the money through ATMs. This system is commendable but the procedure specified for pensioners, including disabled persons, is complex and cumbersome. The procedure comprises the attestation of photographs, computerised national identity cards, life certificate, indemnity bond, etc, by gazetted officers. How can millions of pensioners find gazetted officers willing to verify and sign all these documents? The government needs to simplify this procedure to make life easier for everyone. I appeal to the government to kindly accept existing credentials of pensioners maintained by the concerned departments. M AKRAM NIAZI Rawalpindi
