Sir: Ghulam Ahmed Park is a large open recreational space in a low income area of Saddar Bazaar, Lahore Cantt. Once it was an effervescent hub of life. Young people as well as children used to play here and families used to come here for walks and picnics. This piece of land is now a barren construction site. It is no longer a patch of green to come to when the residents of surrounding areas need to escape the noise and pollution of the city. It is a useless, concrete eyesore caught in legal purgatory — a symbol of the Lahore Cantt Board’s disregard for the needs of citizens and the environment. A stay order has been initiated by a civil court (Mr Mohsin Ali Khan Civil Judge Grade 1) but the Lahore Cantt Board is continuing construction on this piece of land in violation of court orders. Amid this legal confusion, the Lahore Cantt Board has expedited the construction work. Amid the slow judicial process, the residents are losing their park. The court should take note of this blatant disregard of law and order the Lahore Cantt Board to stop the construction work in this park on a permanent basis. ARSHAD CHAUDHRYLahore
