Sir: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sacked one sitting minister and an adviser to the chief minister on charges of incompetence, allegations of corruption, etc. The decision was taken by the party at its meeting held under the chairmanship of party chairman Imran Khan. A few other ministers and advisers were also scrutinised by a meeting on the recommendations of the monitoring committee of the party but they got away with strict warnings. This action by the PTI is very commendable and must be emulated by other political parties, federal and provincial governments to start purging the incompetent and corrupt. The criterion for retaining a team of ministers and senior bureaucrats and advisers must be pure competence, honesty, sincerity of purpose and hard work and not loyalty and past affiliations with individual political leaders. If a minister or bureaucrat proves to be incompetent, frivolous or corrupt, he should be shown the door and somebody else from the party be given a chance to prove himself. Imran Khan could be criticised on a number of counts but no one can accuse him of corruption, nepotism and cronyism. He must be given credit where it is due and should be criticised or advised when he errs in his judgment. Z. Ahmed Islamabad
