Sir: Once upon a time, Karachi used to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful cities of Pakistan. Karachi’s residents used to live a fear-free and peaceful life; brotherhood and love was all around. The Mazar-e-Quaid, seaside and old British era architecture were some of the things for which Karachi was known. Now, what has happened? Karachi, the city of lights, the city of peace and harmony has now turned into a city of terror and bloodshed. Karachi is now associated with bomb blasts and firing. Karachi is now lit up by the fires of blasts and the authorities seem helpless. Our enemies are trying to create ethnic, cultural and religious rifts among the people. Casualties have become common and so many people die daily. I urge the prime minister and all authorities to build a comprehensive plan to safeguard the city and the country by involving all political parties and other stakeholders to deal with the menace of bombings and other acts of terrorism. There is the need of political will to resolve this issue without any further delay. Public holidays and strikes after any traffic incident is not the solution. Closure of businesses is not only a disaster for daily workers but for the mid to large size industries as well. Karachi will once again become the city of lights and again there will be laughter and happiness but for this to happen we must all take a stand, citizens and rulers both. Karachi will get back its peace, harmony and beauty, and will be recognised as the most peaceful and prosperous city of Pakistan provided we act now. RUTABA MUNEER Karachi
