Sir: There are times when faith is once again restored in this country and its people. Recent news reports indicate that the world’s topper in Mathematics in the O-Level Cambridge examinations, is an 18-year-old young man from Sukkur, Pakistan. It is so heart warming to see that, even in adverse circumstances, young Pakistanis from all sorts of backgrounds achieve whatever they set their hearts on. If only the government realised the potential of the people of this country and gave them the opportunities they truly deserve instead of depriving them from even three square meals a day. No wonder people who have a lot going for them leave this country. TAHIR ALI Lahore
