Sir: We recently watched the replay of the Model Town massacre. This time it was on Constitution Avenue with the same wolf-like police unleashing violence against unarmed marchers. As for the probe report of the Model Town tragedy, the government moved heaven and earth to keep it confidential, but somehow it got around and came to the fore. The commission, headed by Justice Bakir Najafi, held its preliminary investigation, which PAT had boycotted, and squarely held accountable the Punjab government for the death of 14 people, including a pregnant woman. Who gave the authority to the government to launch such a brutal crackdown on unarmed marchers headed for the Prime Minister’s House peacefully? Aren’t such peaceful protests staged outside the White House, British parliament and 10 Downing Street? Who on earth will make good for these murders and killings? The coverage by the media clearly showed that besides rubber bullets and tear gas, real bullets were fired at the marchers, resulting in more than 200 injuries and 10 casualties. Even General Pervez Musharraf would not have acted so viciously as the Sharifs have done under the cloak of democracy. Farrukh Aziz Ansari Islamabad
