Sir: Punjab is the most populated and richest province in the country compared to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which is less developed. However, KP has a plenty of natural resources that can help generate more than 50,000 MW of electricity. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has stated that the Punjab province does not have many opportunities to produce cost effective hydel power and the government is pursuing solar energy that is comparatively more expensive. The KP government is looking for investors to help fund and develop its hydel projects. Therefore, the two provinces need to develop a mechanism, where the Punjab province should fund hydel projects to be constructed in KP on a partnership basis. Thus, the electricity produced should also be distributed equally between both provinces. In this way, the projects will be completed quickly, water will be conserved earlier, electricity rates will go down and the entire nation will benefit from this development.
