Sir: It was really a happy moment to hear the news about the implementation of uniform prayer timings in the federal capital from May 1. It augurs well for religious harmony and tolerance that is almost vanishing from our society. The efforts by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to develop a consensus among Shia, Barelvi, Deobandi and Ahle Hadith sects on uniform prayer timings are really commendable. All Muslims believe in One Allah and follow the teachings of Islam preserved in the Holy Quran and followed by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Different distinctions, created by various sects that lead to religious animosity, need to be eliminated and the decision regarding uniform prayer timings is a significant development. It is expected that this decision would be practised throughout the country in all periods to come. NAZIA JABEENLahore
