Sir: I would like to invite the attention of the authorities concerned towards the poor plight of farmers in Pakistan. We see that every politician talks about the economic problems of farmers but no one takes action to ameliorate their condition. Unfortunately, they make politics out of it that is not fair at all. The government never thinks about the reasons for the growing worries of farmers. In my opinion, the first cause of this problem is the unfair distribution of wealth and the exploitation of the farmer community. Farmers are usually dependent on mediators to sell their crops and they cannot sell them directly, while the government itself does not purchase their produce directly. Secondly, we all know that farming is a seasonal occupation. The government should provide alternative means of earnings to farmers and it should set up small cottage industries where farmers could work. SYEDA AQSA Karachi
