Sir: Punjab University hostels accommodate more than 3,000 students from all over Pakistan. The hostel mess is well run through cooperation between the students and the administration, but I want to highlight that at the canteen the standard of food is unhygienic. No steps are taken by the administration to check the quality of uncovered food and milkshakes. Where the supplies of milk come from is unknown and its quality is also in doubt. According to a sociology teacher’s research, there is a strong chance of a disease like hepatitis spreading due to these unhygienic foods. I want to complain about this situation to the administration, but where and how to complain is still ambiguous. I told the university doctor that I fell unconscious after drinking milk from the hostel canteen but he turned a deaf ear to my pleas. I request that the Vice Chancellor Punjab University along with food department experts examine the hostel canteen immediately to ensure the health of students. SYED IMTIAZ AHMED Lahore
